God Bless Week 17! I have gone the WHOLE WEEK without being sick! Its a miracle!
We have had lots going on this week, not the least of which was finding out a little early, and kind of accidentally, that we are having a son!
To explain, I had been really down earlier in the week for a variety of reasons. First, I think I was just experiencing some hormonal surges because I broke out with acne (TMI) worse than the entire pregnancy combined, all in one afternoon. Next, I got really worried. I have been tracking my weight gain, or lack thereof, since the beginning. I was actually really happy about not gaining a lot of weight in the first trimester. I could tell I had put some weight on, but no one else really could. However, the lack of weight gain from weeks 14 to 17 had me concerned. I kept telling myself that I was being paranoid, but I think Jake decided he could not live with me in this mood until my next ultrasound on July 15th, so he called the doctor and had it moved up to the afternoon of the 3rd.
Once the ultrasound tech confirmed that the baby looked good and had a good heartbeat, I was so relieved I didn't even think about finding out the gender. I really didn't. Then she said that she knew what we were having and asked us if we wanted to know. We went back and forth about it, ultimately deciding that we would have the results put in an envelope and open it later. Then she told us to turn our heads while she photographed the area where gender can be seen and at that moment I had to know. When she said it was a boy I was so shocked! I just KNEW I was having a girl. Of course, I am delighted to have a son and if we are lucky enough to have more children they will have a big brother, which I always wanted, but I still could not believe it! It took a day or two to sink in and then I just got really excited. Little girls are all about Daddy, but little boys are all about Mommy!
Since finding out that Peter James Malatesta was headed our way I have been in high gear planning the nursery. Jake has pretty much let me run with it, but I have shown him everything I have ordered/am ordering.
I have decided to do a zoo theme, with royal blue, aqua, lime green and grey colors. Very boy:) I have ordered some canvases for above Peter's crib. Mimi (my mom-thanks Mom!) is ordering Peter some pretty bedding, curtains and a sweet little minky blanket. We have gotten Peter's mattress and his crib should be here on Monday or Tuesday. I have found a glider I am going to order, but I have been waiting to see if I find something else. I like the glider I found, I am just not obsessed with it. The only big thing for the nursery I still need to find is a dresser/changing table. Then it will really just be a matter of getting odds and ends for the nursery. Then we can move on to getting the big things we will need, like a stroller, car seat and pack n' play. We have still got time for that!
So here are the stats:
How Far Along: 17 weeks
Size of Baby: He weighs 6 oz. and is about the size of a large bell pepper.
Weight Gain: Still holding pretty steady.
Gender: Boy! Peter James Malatesta.
Movement: Nope.
Sleep: Still doing good on sleep. I am not waking up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom anymore, I guess because he has shifted up. I do miss sleeping on my stomach.
What I miss: Sweet tea. I am dying for a McAlister's Sweet Tea. At this rate, it may be the first thing I have after Peter is born.
Cravings: I wanted some guacamole yesterday, but I don't really think it was a pregnancy craving per se. I did go to the grocery store, get the ingredients and make the guacamole. Take that as you will.
Symptoms: I feel like singing the Hallelujah chorus! I have spent a whole week being nausea and vomit free! In its place, I now have heartburn. Fairly significant heartburn after I eat, no matter what I eat. However, it does not bother me as much as the other.
Best Moment of the week: Seeing my son moving around on the ultrasound and getting some really good pictures of him!
